Guest Speakers

The leader of a peaceful revolution in Poland may join your table for dinner. One of the 12 American astronauts to have walked on the moon could lead a spirited talk over drinks in the lounge. A best-selling Pulitzer-prize-winning author may join you on deck to photograph albatross riding your ship’s contrails. Or you may have a chance to watch the aurora borealis dance in the company of the chief scientist of a NASA laboratory.

On select expeditions, guest speakers join us to add layers of insight and interest. Hailing from the top tiers of world affairs, journalism and exploration, these are people you may have seen on national news or in a lecture hall.

In most cases, the guest speaker will join the full expedition, sharing meals, venturing out to explore, and participating in every aspect of the journey. Sometimes, when the guest speaker is actively involved in world affairs—an acting ambassador or scientist in the middle of complex fieldwork—they will come aboard simply to share a day or lead a talk and then answer questions at the day’s end.

In any case, you can count on your guest speaker to illuminate aspects of your expedition or add historical context from firsthand knowledge.
