Ronaldo Calvo

Ronald Calvo grew up in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica.  He earned degrees in geography and ecotourism at the University of Costa Rica.  He has done consulting work for the non-profit Fundación Neotropica on a management plan for Palo Verde and Barra Honda National Parks, and advised on water resources for several communities in the Turrubares, Central Pacific region of Costa Rica.

Ronald is a teacher at heart and has worked at Universidad Latina de Costa Rica teaching physical geography and planning for development, and has given lectures on geomorphology for the certification of tour guides at Institute of Biodiversity of Costa Rica and the National Learning Institute, as well as for students from several US, Mexican and Austrian colleges and universities such as Texas Christian University, LeMoyne College, University of Oregon, Lynchburg College, University of Monterrey.  He has also worked as a consultant on the certification of adventure tour guides and has organized workshops on environmental education.  He participated in the development of tourism in the province of Guanacaste and advised on the management of Tortuguero, Arenal and Amistad National Parks, as well as the Atlantic and Central Pacific zones.  Since 2008, he has given lectures about environmental and professional ethics at the National Congress of Adventure Tourism in Bucaramanga, Colombia.  In 2011, he lectured about sustainability and social responsibility in Beijing, China and Piedmont, Italy. Workshops on Adventure Tours and Rural tourism development were given by Ronald in Rivera, Uruguay. His experience leading trips include countries like Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Peru and Greece.

In his free time, Ronald has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Program for Geographic Research.  His hobbies include sports, mountain biking, adventure racing, and traveling around the world.
