We are in the heart of the jungle. This is the region where a lot of rivers and creeks converge to form the mighty Amazon River. We are having a great time exploring and discovering new plants and animals in this mysterious region.

The rivers are light brown in color; and there is so much vegetation and trees floating everywhere! These are the features of a powerful river able to change the landscape itself. The combination of it all makes us feel part of this complex biological world.

We had an optional skiff ride in the early morning before breakfast. We visited the riverbank for more than an hour looking for wildlife. As we moved through this flooded land we had our first sightings, there were a lot of birds of all sizes and colors! The more impressive one was the black-collared hawk that happens to perch on the trees along the riverside.

Later in the morning after breakfast as soon as we landed we headed into the dim light of the primary forest. We discovered the food plants, the commercial types such as the rubber tree! Later on we explored the forest from much closer: it was the canopy walk! This was an amazing experience along a set of suspended bridges. We were impressed by the size of some trees and also the organisms that inhabit the treetops.

In the afternoon we headed on the skiffs to Nauta Caño. It was a nice and calm afternoon, the perfect time to explore the flooded forest. It is mindboggling being here and among trees that endure months partly flooded or entirely submerged under the brown waters. The level of the water is high and sightings are diverse and great! We spotted woodpeckers, sloths, and monkeys.

There are surprises all along the skiff rides. It was a great day!
