We started our day with an exploration by skiffs, starting at 7:00 am. We grabbed our bags, cameras and binoculars and we headed again into the deep flooded forest of Atún Poza. It was a beautiful morning with a warm breeze, quiet trees, and not much wind, but lots of bird songs! These conditions promised a great morning to come.
The skiffs of the Delfin II have been perfectly designed for this type of exploration, for they are fast and easy to maneuver. As we started our journey into the forest, we spotted black-collared hawks perching on cecropia trees, waiting for the opportunity to get the first meal of the day. As we moved along, there was a troop of fast moving squirrel monkeys, minutes later we spotted a pair of Monk Saki monkeys jumping and running through the branches of a large tree. This type of monkey is black with white paws, and very furry. We all were excited at the chance to watch them, as it is always a great surprise to have them around.
At 3:00 pm we started our long ride to explore the deepest region of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. It is a stunning ride along a black water tributary of the Ucayali River. All the way though the flooded forest, the water is black and the reflection of the forest is breath taking! There is an amazing collection of bird species and monkeys to be found here.
Another beautiful day in the heart of the Jungle!
