It is our second day of our adventure here in the enchanted islands. Today we see two small Islands, Bartolome, which has the most beautiful landscapes in Galapagos and great snorkeling opportunities, and then Rabida, which has an impressive red sandy beach with lots of Galapagos sea lions. Rabida also has a very small brackish lagoon which is the habitat for flamingos and lagoon birds.
This morning at 6:30 a.m. we disembarked to get to the top of Bartolome in a pre-breakfast activity. As we were ascending the view was better and better at every single step up. Eventually, once we got to the top an impressive 360° view reveals more than twenty islands far out in the distance. Later in the morning we disembark at a golden volcanic beach to explore, relax, and snorkel off the beach. This tiny island is considered to be an open textbook into geology because there are spatter and cinder cones everywhere. Even more exciting was the visit to the rim of a sunken volcano, which everybody observed. Being on top of this spectacular place was like being in a different world surrounded by peace and nature.
At 12:30 p.m. we had a traditional lunch, with a little bit of food from all of the regions of Ecuador, followed by some siesta time during the navigation from Bartolome to Rabida. After dropping anchor at Rabida Bay, all our guests were offered kayaking, deep water snorkeling, beach time, and a nature walk. Red sand, steep cliffs, sea birds, and sea lions were some of the best highlights we could observe exploring this Island.
First we sent out by Zodiac a group of kayakers to enjoyed the dramatic eroded coast line of Rabida, and because this is the nesting time for the Pacific green sea turtles, there were dozens of them popping their heads out of the water to breathe next to our kayakers. This was a unique experience our guests had never had before. A second group was sent also by Zodiac for deep water snorkeling in a place we almost guarantee the presence of many fish, marine iguanas feeding, playful Galapagos sea lions, turtles rays, and sharks as well. It couldn’t be a better day here in paradise.
Till tomorrow my dear friends because we are just pulling anchor up to continue our navigation towards the western part of Galapagos, where Fernandina and Isabela are located. We stayed long enough to watch the sunset from the Island. The sun went slowly down behind Isabela Island, our visiting site for tomorrow. Everybody is just happy to have come to this isolated archipelago for their vacation.
