Today was our first day at the Amazon, and our great group of adventurists were ready to start an amazing week full of new discoveries and experiences aboard the Delfin II.
Our first activity was a skiff ride, and we were not disappointed! Egrets, caracaras, hawks and saddle-backed monkeys showed up to give us a welcome to the Amazon. For about 1-½ hours, we navigated the river in the search of more flora and fauna—a successful beginning for a brand new day.
Right after breakfast, we got ready for a hike at Casual Trail, a true way to meet the amazon jungle from first hand. Our team of naturalist was leading us along trails, sharing the secrets of the local flora and fauna with our guests, secrets that they inherited from their ancestors and that are passed down from generation to generation.
As we kept walking, more of nature’s living treasures came out to greet us—sloths, birds, poison-dart frogs and even an anaconda were some of the many things we were able to see and enjoy.
Later in the afternoon, we got the skiff ready for another outing, this time in the search of gray and pink fresh water dolphins. On the way to the lagoon, we enjoyed amazing views of the jungle, and of the birds that our naturalist were able to spot for us. Once we reached the dolphins’ habitat, it was only a matter of minutes before these unique creatures started to show up, drawing a big smile on everybody’s face. Finally it was time to head back to our ship, enjoying a spectacular sunset to end our first day of our expedition.
