It is our second day of the trip. This morning, which is a bit overcast, we are in Gardner Bay, a nice visitor site with several islets surrounded by turquoise blue water that hits a white sandy beach where a big colony of sea lions rest.
After having breakfast we prepare to initiate our adventure, we set our snorkeling gear up and went to Gardner islet to enjoy the marine ecosystems that Galapagos offers to all intrepid swimmers. As soon as we jumped into the ocean we spotted a marine turtle that was resting comfortable at the sea bed. Juvenile playful sea lions came to play with us, they make a big show for the visitors, it is a terrific experience that our travelers get here. Later a shark appears and a little boy yelled so loud: “shark, shark!” And everyone got very excited about this encounter. Here sharks are one of the main attractions, with no fear.
Our next spot was the beach, many baby sea lions were ready to play with our younger explorers, mockingbirds were everywhere, and sea birds were fishing along the coast. It was a wonderful morning! Close to twelve o’clock we returned on board to have lunch.
In the afternoon we motored to Punta Suarez, which is considered one of the most beautiful places of Galapagos, so many animals are unique to this island such as mockingbirds, the largest lava lizards of Galapagos, and the majestic waved albatross that are just now arriving after migrating to South America. The walk was amazing, as always this spot was fully of wild life, Nazca boobies, blue footed boobies, sea gulls, finches, snakes, frigates, hawks, warblers, iguanas, just to name few creatures’ inhabitants of this paradise.
At the halfway point of the trail you see a magnificent volcanic formation, a cliff where seabirds love to be, and the blow hole is its main attraction. It’s a lava tube whose roof collapsed in a form of a hole where ocean water is thrown up into the air like a geyser; it is a spectacular view.
We are very happy because albatrosses are here, many of them starting the courtship to fall in love, then they will reproduce. It is fantastic to know that they are endemic to this island, I said to my guests, enjoy them – because it is the only place where they are seen! The rest of the week holds more surprises coming to us.
