We woke up early in the morning ready to go on a pre-breakfast kayaking outing. Along the coastline we saw many Nazca boobies, marine iguanas and also pacific green sea turtles surfacing the shallow waters.
After breakfast, suited up to snorkel and went deep water snorkeling around Gardner Island. We saw large schools of yellow tailed razor surgeonfish, a couple of Galapagos sea lion playing around us. The vertical wall was full of some invertebrates; pencil sea urchins, sea stars, and sponges. Blue parrot fishes showing their vibrant colors, were a huge part of the show. What a great experience was had with everyone.
We went back to the ship to suite back for a stroll along a white sand coralline beach. Gardner bay has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world; white sandy beach, turquoise waters and sleepy adorable sea lions sleeping on the white sand. Some of our guests had the opportunity to learn how to snorkel and practice some of their snorkeling skills. Hood mockingbirds are curios birds and approach you within a few feet of distance.
During lunch time, we had an amazing surprise; an amazing Ecuadorian buffet was awaiting for us to be delighted by foods from different areas of the country.
After lunch, we had a great photography talk given by our Lindblad-National Geographic Certified photo instructor, where we learned about the essentials of nature photography.
During the afternoon, before we landed, we spotted a pot of approximately 300 bottle nose dolphins, which performed quite a show for us bow riding our zodiacs and allowing us to photograph them.
After an amazing dolphin show, we had a dry landing on Suarez Point; a mind blowing visitor site, where most of the species that we find here are only found on this island, nowhere else in the entire planet. Along our afternoon hike, we encountered large Nazca boobies, marine iguanas, brown pelicans, and a couple of Galapagos hawks (the top large predator in the archipelago). The landscape is astonishing here, from a large blow whole with birds overflying the ocean spray, giant cliffs colored by the sunset golden light. We had an amazing experience on Espanola Island.
