This island is fantastic is many different ways. Flora, fauna and human history.
I have to say today was like no other day on a general basis. We started early for a pre-breakfast outing by visiting a place called Punta Cormorant. Here we saw sea lions, diving pelicans, blue-footed boobies, mating turtles, and hundreds of sting rays in the shallow water and more. I just cannot imagine a better place than this for wildlife.
After breakfast we headed out to a nearby islet where you can only do Zodiac rides and snorkeling. The Zodiac ride was enjoyable as we were on a mission to find our third species of mockingbird on the trip. We succeeded, but it also showed us other animals like sea lions and birds as usual.
When I thought my day was done we entered the water with our guests to encounter the other amazing side of the Galapagos - its rich waters and all the elements within it. Large schools of fish in all forms and colors, sea lions entertaining us as if they were trained to, rays, and even sharks came by to say hello.
In the afternoon after a siesta we reached another location on the same island, this one with a lot of history, especially from the whaling days that saw Galapagos as a good opportunity for business. This adventure lasted for a couple of centuries, leaving a lot of devastation to some giant tortoise populations on some of the islands and of course, to the whales.
One of the things still visible from that time is Post Office Bay, where a wooden barrel that was used for communication with home is set up. You can take your letters, postcards, or just a message written on a simple piece of paper to be taken home by the other visitors of Floreana. Hand delivery is the traditional way this is done, so no stamps are needed.
To finish this day full of surprises we went out kayaking or Zodiac riding around rocky outcrops and little islets to view fantastic wildlife.
