This morning we disembarked the Caledonian Star early and headed for the northern highlands of Trinidad, where we spent the morning at the world-famous Asa Wright Nature Center. We arrived at this idyllic spot in the Arima valley in time for breakfast, and spent the next few hours either on the verandah gazing at a procession of colorful birds that visit the feeders placed there, or hiking along the myriad of rain-forest trails. All too quickly it was time to leave, but not before we had all seen White-necked Jacobins, Bananaquits galore, Purple Honeycreepers (pictured), Green Honeycreepers, Crested Oropendulas and so much more. Even non-birdwatchers were enthralled, it is a wildlife spectacle that is hard to beat.
