Floreana Island
Today it seemed that every small detail planned in order to have an excellent day in Floreana has turned out perfect! Not having any control over the appearances of animals inhabiting this remote archipelago might seem like a bummer to some, but in a way, I am happy that we don’t! Otherwise this experience won’t be any different than Disneyland (not that there is anything wrong with that place!).
To tell you the truth, it seems that every time we talk about a specific animal, it immediately appears out of nowhere, sometimes giving us the wrong impression as if we are hiding a remote control somewhere!
Today we planned to enjoy as much as we can of the underwater world of Galápagos, more specific the surroundings of a small satellite island of Floreana called Champion. As if the sea lions attended our briefing last night, they appeared just as we promised they would. Incredible underwater ballet-like jumps attracted our guests to where the sea lions where hanging out. As soon as they spotted us, they rushed to our encounter and gave us for sure one of the most memorable experiences of the entire trip! The second snorkeling outing happened at Devil’s Crown, which despite its spooky name, did not give us too much trouble while accessing its hidden caves and sharp edges. An abundance of marine life was found here coexisting in balance with the sharks that were swimming at the surrounding submarine walls.
It was after our snorkeling that we decided to land at Point Cormorant, where a nice walk skirting a lagoon with lots of shore birds in it surprised us by providing an encounter with flamingoes. Not a bad day at all; and as if this was not enough, the sunset was terrific!
