Isabela & Fernandina Islands

What a wonderful day we had today!

Early in the morning we found ourselves navigating on the northern hemisphere towards the Equator. Our Expedition Leader, Lucho Verdesoto, gave us an optional wake-up call for the early risers. Slightly cloudy skies this morning gave us a mystic impression to the volcanoes surrounding us as we navigated toward our destination, Punta Vicente Roca.

As soon as we arrived to Isabela Island, we started with the most impressive panga ride: sea turtles, flightless cormorants, Galápagos penguins, marine iguanas, bright red crabs, and seabirds of different kinds, all on an impressive volcanic landscape. Soon after, our water activities saw us snorkeling with turtles and penguins. Some of us were very lucky to notice flightless cormorant right in front of us.

Back on board, we continued our navigation to Fernandina Island during lunch. Marine iguanas by the load are present in this brand new place. La Cumbre is the name of the huge single shield volcano that crowns Fernandina Island. Enormous black lava flows with different textures, frozen in time as if this were a poem, song or conversation with time; all of this just under our feet. Many flightless cormorants make this place come alive with their nests and their impressive turquoise eyes; sea turtles and sea lions were also seen from shore. We came to understand the coexistence in this fragile world called Galápagos.

Our guests are now wondering, how are we going to top this day? Hmmm…! I must say that these are the “Enchanted Islands” and this paradise will find a way to do so.
