Española Island

What a memorable day! It is very difficult to describe all the wonderful encounters and feelings all of us had today. Anyway, to give you an idea, we have to mention some of them. During the walk in the morning three baby waved albatrosses were spotted, including one being fed by one of its parents! Some adult albatrosses were flying around the cliffs. At midday just when we were getting ready to have lunch, a pod of bottle-nosed dolphins were seen from the Polaris. The pod was mixed with some playful sea lions that were “porpoising” with them. Minutes later a Bryde’s whale was spotted as well. This whale is a tropical one and it is usually not seen in the shallow waters that surround Gardner Bay. This beautiful spot was our visit in the afternoon. Many activities filled every taste; some people went for an outing in the glass bottom boat. Others went snorkeling, and some were just strolling on a beautiful white sand beach. Gardner beach is a paradisiacal place where you can mingle with a sea lion colony. Baby sea lions were admired and their beauty, innocence and total lack of fear was a real highlight for many of us. The icing of the cake happened when we were preparing to disembark. A second group of bottle-nosed dolphins was spotted. This time we went to take a closer look from the Zodiacs. After a short ride we were watching the dolphins playing, jumping and bow riding. Some snorkelers even had the unique chance to jump in the water and swim with them. What a sighting! Can you imagine experiencing all of this in a single day? Today we all were touched by the magic of the archipelago!
