Genovesa Island

I have been gone from Galapagos for three months, and have sorely missed these enchanting islands. Hence it was especially delightful this morning to be welcomed to my favorite, lovely, white sand beach of Genovesa, by tens of curious and comical juvenile red-footed boobies. They were perched in rows among the evergreen branches of low salt bushes that line the beach. A straight and evenly spaced file of young birds sat on a bleached log that had been tossed high and dry by the surf. They apparently had nothing better to do this morning than watch us as we disembarked from our Zodiacs, dried our feet, put on shoes, and headed off to explore the island. It was hard to tell who was enjoying the moment more, and who was observing who; our intrigued and amused guests or the quizzical juvenile seabirds!

For our V.C. (Video Chronicler), Tove Petterson, this was yet another marvelous opportunity to get magnificent and extremely close footage for the video that she is producing on board this week. The V.C. position is a relatively new one on Polaris, but Tove has proved herself ideally suited to it. Tove has worked for years with Lindblad in the capacity of Dive Master and Undersea Specialist. She is now an indispensable part of the Polaris Galapagos team. The videos that Tove and our other V.C.’s produce may be purchased by guests before they leave Galapagos. Tove puts her shots to music and narration and has a final copy ready by departure time on Saturday morning. Our passengers are thrilled to take home this documentary of their voyage and we are pleased to have Tove working with us in these magical Galapagos Islands.
