The Mystery Island was a wonderful exhibition of colors today. With virtually no clouds in the morning, we had a fantastic Zodiac ride with sea lions, penguins and turtles. The afternoon was also very rewarding as we got to see the first flamingos of the season. After all this, the sour part came when a group of feral goats made their presence obvious to us from the high area of Point Cormorant. As on many other islands, these animals put in jeopardy the very existence of Galapagos natural fauna and flora. It was so sad to see them running freely in such beautiful area! Luckily there are things that can be done about it. The Polaris actively helps and supports eradication of feral animals in several of the Galapagos Islands through the Galapagos Conservation Fund (GCF). This time we managed to get a picture of them so nature lovers worldwide can see that they are a real danger. If you want to know more about Galapagos feral animals, please contact the GCF at [email protected].
