We spent our last day in the wonderful area of Bartolome and Santiago islands. They were as beautiful as ever, but I would love to talk about my personal highlight of the week, which occurred during the snorkeling outing at Champion Islet. I consider the most exciting experiences that we had this week to be the underwater activities, snorkeling with sea lions and sharks so close to us. On the outing I mentioned, we had a chance to observe a couple of sharks mating (the scientists we told at the research station could not believe our luck)! I was with the underwater camera filming the sea lions, who were playing in the water in a very friendly fashion, when the white-tipped reef sharks appeared. These got my attention right away, because I noticed a male chasing the female. She was not really cooperating much with him, in fact she was trying to hide behind us. Some of our guests hadn't noticed but the female shark actually passed right through their legs. I had a great opportunity to film the action and show it to our guests that night, and they couldn't believe it! There are four different species of sharks that we can find close to the coastline in Galapagos: the white-tipped, black-tipped, hammerhead and Galapagos sharks.
