The morning was beautiful with only a few clouds in the sky. The activities included kayaking in the very calm waters of Idaho Inlet, a fjord on the north end of Chicago Island, and hiking along the Craig Mountain meadow. Lunch was an onshore barbecue put on by our crew, which was followed by a cruise in search of sea otters as the ship headed north out of Idaho Inlet. After dinner we spotted a group of humpbacks near Point Adolphus. As the sun began to set there were great views of the flukes of the whales as they dove.
The day worked out quite well. Sea otters down the inlet and a "bakers dozen" of humpbacks at Point Adolphus for after-dinner observations. They were packed so tight you could have stepped from whale to whale as they surfaced. After a while they broke off and went their own way to breach a bit, and then they went off in different directions.
