Los Islotes

This morning we spent time at Isla San Francisco which has a large bay called Half Moon Bay. We had a chance to hike and/or kayak along the cliffs of one side of the bay. There was a salt pan in the middle of the island that fishermen use for salting their fish.

After lunch we were at Los Islotes, which are a few islets used by California sea lions as a haul out. There are also a number of bird species on the rocks such as brown pelicans, cormorants, boobies, both brown and blue footed, and a great blue heron which was on a nest. The first part of the afternoon was spent snorkeling with the sea lions which was quite a thrill for those who the sea lions approached. Zodiac cruises taken after that were also full of sights like the magnificent frigate birds sitting on the rocks. This is hard for them because of their weak legs and feet.
