After a sometimes bumpy, but otherwise pleasant transit from Cabo San Lucas to the protected waters of Magdalena Bay last night, the Sea Bird made its way north through the shallow narrow passage known as Hull Canal. Salt-water resistant mangroves line a great deal of the canal. In several spots along the canal there are large collections of sea birds feeding, nesting, or roosting among the mangroves. In this particular spot a number of double-crested and Brandt's cormorants were waiting for the tide to be low enough to go after some of the fish that live among the roots of the mangroves. Some of the birds were sunning themselves to dry out their wings for flying later in the day. We also saw several other birds and bottlenose dolphins as the ship moved to the north end of the canal where we searched for gray whales.
