Cabo San Lucas
This morning we woke to a beautiful sunrise behind distant blue clouds on the horizon. As we sailed past the famous Friar’s rock we could hear the comforting sound of the sea lions welcoming us to the city of Cabo San Lucas.
Our first opportunity for snorkeling came today at a nearby beach between San Jose and Cabo San Lucas. We were fortunate for such warm waters and sunny weather. We saw many colorful creatures such as the trumpet fish, some bi colored parrot fish, and a school of jacks, who made their way by to say hello. A morning bird watching excursion also took place and we were lucky to see the scissor tailed fly catcher who is a Central American bird and rarely appears in this area. The late morning was spent walking along the marina and shopping for gifts.
As we moved away from Cabo, a breeching humpback whale started out our beautiful afternoon. We then made our way toward a couple of blows that were seen in the distance but got distracted by some bow riding dolphins that were putting on quite a show. When the dolphins moved on we found ourselves in the company of four more humpback whales, one of which lobtailed on a regular basis. Everyone was excited to be out on the bow watching the marine mammals as the afternoon quickly slipped away into another warming sunset.
