The calm waters of the Palouse River (a.k.a. Drewyer's River of the Lewis and Clark Expedition) are the result of Lower Monumental Dam. Today was a fine morning for both Zodiac excursions and kayak enthusiaists. A number of birds were sighted. A bit of a wildlife drama was played out for some kayakers and guests in two Zodiacs. A deer was being stalked by 2 coyotes. The deer did not notice us a bit as his full attention was on the predators.

The sheer basalt rock walls of the Palouse Canyon dominate the landscape. Brown tone of fall is here with the backdrop of Sumac, Wild Clematis seedheads and the bright yellow seedheads of the Rabbitbrush. We continued our journey down the Snake River and viewed Lower Monumental Dam close-up as we passed through the lock. There are eight dams and locks as we passed up and down the Columbia and Snake Rivers.
