Zapotal and Tamarindo beaches
After navigating overnight 80 nautical miles from Nicaragua, we arrived to Zapotal Beach, in the Northern Pacific Ocean of Costa Rica.
As a good start, we found pantropical spotted dolphins swimming by the bow, as we were approaching to Zapotal; they were surfing the current the bow generated as we were moving.
Soon, we disembarked in Zapotal, a remote beach surrounded with an old second growth forest nearby. A group went for a walk through the forest while others enjoyed the surf with their boogie boards and kayaks. The forest walkers spotted black-headed trogons and streak-backed orioles among others; the beach people took the best of it with water sports or just relaxing on a beautiful morning.
In the afternoon we repositioned to Tamarindo, a well-known beach for surfers in Costa Rica. We send our first Zodiacs with the guests that were interested in surfing lessons. Others relaxed on the beach or explored the town.
Later in the afternoon we prepared to navigate southward into our next destination: Manuel Antonio National Park, 130 nautical miles away.
