Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Osa Peninsula is a perfect example of what can be achieved when private and public sectors come together with the purpose of conservation. Morning outings out of San Josecito, this is an important private protected area adjacent to the renowned Corcovado National Park. No matter what the activity of choice was, horseback riding, birding or hiking, groups were rewarded by close encounters with white-throated capuchin monkeys, scarlet macaws and more. Not to mention that those who decided to just relax or swim right on the beach got the chance to see these animals too.

Lunch came, and as always no matter what your choice was, it was delicious. In the afternoon we repositioned the Sea Voyager to visit my favorite place in Costa Rica, Corcovado National Park. Once again, we divided in smaller groups, each one with a naturalist that worked as a link between the visitors and the natural resources of the area.

Just as I anticipated we had close encounters with nature and its inhabitants; mantled howler monkeys, spider monkeys and more, were the sightings of the day.

This has been a beautiful day! We were able to experience the exquisiteness of the tropical rainforest and its dwellers because of the effort of not only the national park service of Costa Rica, but also of the private sector.

We leave this corner of heaven escorted by the presence of a Humpback whale. What a great way of finishing an unforgettable day!
