Osa Península, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

There are precious moments in nature that we treasure forever. Today at the region of Osa Conservation area, we were given an example of how conservation efforts satisfy our senses and make our life jubilant. The flight of scarlet macaws over the tree tops welcomed our guests of the Sea Voyager as we arrived to Playa Caletas in the Osa Peninsula. These birds with their bright coloration have been growing in numbers since the government of Costa Rica and the local people have set up protective measures for conserving this habitat.

All of our morning activities, horseback riding, birdwatching, swimming or hiking, were organized to provide us with a close encounter to this forest. White-throated capuchin monkeys, mantled howler monkeys, Central American Spider monkeys, American crocodiles among towering trees reaching more than 120 feet in height and running streams portrait a spectacular scenery, difficult to forget.

In the afternoon after a well deserved lunch and siesta we continued to explore the region. Our next place discovered by our guests was Corcovado National Park. This spectacular protected area is the last great tract of moist tropical forest in the Pacific of Central America. Once again, our eyes were filled with the greenery and lush vegetation as we walked the trails of the park. A hike to a waterfall or primary forest, besides an easier stroll on the area, added more special sightings and more intimate moments with the natural history of the peninsula. As the aster king ended our day with a colorful twilight we will keep in our memories the majesty and power of a day with colors everywhere.
