Today National Geographic Endeavour II arrived before sunrise to Genovesa Island. Here, we anchor inside the caldera of an extinct volcano. Invasive species have not arrived to this place, so animals here are in paradise. We started our activities very early in the morning with a paddleboard and kayak outing along the wall of the caldera.
After breakfast, we took a nice hike along Prince Philip’s Steps to search for the Galapagos short eared owl. Then, we enjoyed another amazing hike where we spotted frigate birds, red footed boobies, and Nazca boobies everywhere. We then got ready to jump in the water and explore the underwater world of Genovesa Island. We saw sharks, rays, sea lions and so many colorful fish.
After lunch, we got to enjoy a second round of kayaking and paddleboarding to explore the island. As a final excursion, we visited Darwin’s Bay where we saw animals right on the trail. Here, you do not need zoom for your pictures, animals are posing for you at all different angles. Everyone took a National Geographic-style photo to bring back home and remember this expedition for the rest of their lives.
