It was a day full of excitement and expectations in a colorful place that makes everyone smile. I am talking about Casa Orquideas Botanical Gardens, a little piece of paradise in the middle of the “Golfo Dulce” which is a personal project of Ron and Trudy McAlister, American ex-patriots living in Costa Rica for the past 35 years. They had the amazing idea of starting orchid collections here and it has, over the years, become one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Costa Rica.
As always, our friends at Casa Orquideas literally opened their home to our guests, letting us enjoy the beauty of the heliconias, bromeliads, orchids, and more. There was an activity for everyone: enthusiastic photographers, landscapers, gardeners, and of course, bird lovers who were surprised by tanagers, euphonias, and toucans who were constantly visiting the papaya trees for breakfast.
The morning was full of beautiful nature sightings! We brought out stand up paddle boards for the younger travelers and offered expedition landing craft lessons for those feeling adventurous.
Kayaks and expedition landing craft cruises were an option to visit the Golfito Mangrove forest, an amazing ecosystem that turn into a beautiful afternoon of birdwatching.
