Today we recreated the voyage of many great explorers as we traveled through Icy Strait. One such explorer was George Vancouver, the British commander who charted these waters in the late 1700s. Nearly one hundred years later, a young John Muir was one of many pioneers to use Vancouver’s map to explore this passageway.

As the National Geographic Sea Bird meanders through the passageway using numerous forms of satellite and sonar navigational instruments, we pay our due respects to those early explorers.
