We sailed early to reach lovely Tobermory, the main town on the Isle of Mull. We had the options of either joining Steve on a photo walk or Konia to hear a bit about the history and look at some gardens around the town or do our own thing. Not even a slightly damp morning can spoil the charm of this multi-coloured town. And the shops are really interesting too!
During lunch we set sail for the Isle of Skye. We passed the most westerly point on the British mainland at Ardnamurchan point with the lighthouse of the same name (see photo) steered safely by Captain Bob Rait and Chief Mate James Forbes-Simpson (see photo).
On arrival at Armadale on the Isle of Skye we made our way to the Museum of the Clan Donald Centre for an excellent and exclusive guided tour by the new curator–of course a MacDonald. This was followed by a garden tour with Konia or some exploring of the gardens and shops by ourselves. The gardens at the Clan Donald Centre are magical, not least due to the wonderful old trees.
A short sail and photo presentation by Steve and information on tomorrow’s itinerary by David brought us to Inverie. This village is truly remote; it is not connected to the road network of Britain. You either have to walk 16 miles to get here or come by ship–the latter definitely the easier option.
After another beautiful meal on Lord of the Glens many of us went to experience village life at the remotest pub on the British mainland – and also got the T-shirt.
