The beginning of our journey couldn’t be any better! This first day in the Galapagos has been full of wildlife, landscapes, and activities. We started the morning with the visit to North Seymour. This islet situated to the northern side of Santa Cruz Island is a bird’s paradise. From the distance we could already see all the activity! Frigate birds scanning the skies, blue-footed boobies and brown pelicans diving, and brown noddies trying to steal from the pelicans. And we hadn’t even disembarked yet!
On land we encountered our favorites - Galapagos sea lions. The imposing alpha male welcomed us with some territorial calls, females were busy nursing their babies, and of course babies were ready to look cute for our cameras! The sun was shining and the sky was completely blue as we set out for our walk. Along the shore we spotted several land iguanas and marine iguanas. This island is definitely a highlight.
At lunchtime we sailed west towards Rabida Island. The red color of this place is very different from any other landscape we might have seen. Some of us went to the beach, others went snorkeling or kayaking. The conditions couldn’t be better for water activities. There was great visibility, warm waters, and a calm area overall. We spotted sea turtles, sharks, sea lions, and of course hundreds of colorful fish.
To end a wonderful day we witnessed an amazing sunset from the beach, alongside some sea lions that were with us in this beautiful moment. The sun disappeared behind Isabela Island, our next destination for tomorrow.
