Today we visited San Cristobal Island, focusing on Pitt Point in the morning and Kicker Rock in the afternoon.
We travelled all night to get to the most western point of San Cristobal island. After a wet landing on a brown volcanic beach, we started the climb through what looked like a big cannon. The geology of this location is really impressive. The tuff cones looked like giants that witnessed several geologic episodes. The view from to top was just phenomenal. As we continued, we got to the nesting site of the blue footed boobies and viewed one nest with two newborn chicks. Later we got see the interesting red footed boobies on their nests, too.
We continued our adventure on the same island and we visited Kicker Rock, the remains of what used to be a shield volcano. The snorkeling at this location was just amazing! As soon as we jumped into the water, Galapagos and hammerhead sharks appeared and sea turtles and sea lions also joined us in our swim. It was an awesome time snorkeling with these creatures. it seemed like they had been waiting to greet us.
Today was definitely a great adventure and a nice way to close an expedition full of surprises. From the remains of an eruption to an incredible number of snakes on single walk, there was always something incredible to experience.
Undoubtedly, Galapagos is a place to both enjoy and learn about nature at its purest.
