Far from sight of land, a stiff wind greeted us this morning, along with a surprising array of winged land animals that were blown out to sea: hundreds of moths and at least seven birds took refuge on our ship. Possibly our most exotic visitor for the day was this dapper juvenile male bay-capped wren-spinetail. He took a particular liking to our paint store and resisted my attempts to coax him back into a safer place. He eventually continued on his way. —Conor Ryan, Naturalist
