After a day of gray whale watching, and of traveling through a long, narrow channel among mangroves and birds, we ended the day at the northern tip of Isla Magdalena. Here we had a Mexican "Fiesta", with a lecture on tequila, and a very good typical Mexican dinner, consisting of spiced roasted grouper, giant prawns prepared in three different ways, hot flour tortillas, and refried beans with Mexican fresh salsa. Before and after the meal, we heard from a local musical group, led by the teacher and director of the elementary school in town. Tonight the performers were Cuco, Aldo, Alejandro and Giulliani, a thirteen-year-old boy, who does most of the singing. All pieces played were Mexican songs, including "Alla en el Rancho Grande", and "La Bamba". Because this is northern Mexico, many other songs were northern songs. The group sports three guitars and a "guiro", a fish-like piece of rough-scaled wood that is rubbed with a hard thin stick. It was an enjoyable evening, with a taste of authentic Mexico aboard the Sea Lion.
