This was an utterly fantastic last day of our voyage! The sun came up over the high mountains of Costa Rica and photographers swarmed the bow with cameras in hand. Brown boobies circled around the ship as we came into our anchorage at Manuel Antonio National Park.

After breakfast we zipped to shore to embark upon a variety of walks. Some strolled leisurely along a trail practically littered with wildlife while others sweated their way uphill to enjoy commanding views of the surrounding area. Manuel Antonio is well known for its tremendous wildlife viewing opportunities, and today did not disappoint. It was hard to make any progress on the trail because every few minutes another exciting species was sighted. We had terrific views of white-faced capuchin monkeys, which were sprawled on the tree branches, draped over the palm fronds, grooming one another, scratching the proverbial monkey itch, and generally causing mayhem in their cheekiness and desire to acquire human belongings. Several coatimundis were spotted ambling along the beach, blinking at us and trying to avoid the attention of the grimacing capuchins. Many sloths dangled from the trees, some obsessively scratching themselves, others slowly munching leaves, and most taking naps. The ubiquitous leaf-cutter ants marched along the trails, a variety of birds were heard and watched, and some folks had a chance to see squirrel monkeys. A family of raccoons stopped by our beach station, scampering on agile paws with bottle-brush tails spelling mischief.

In the afternoon we had a few hours of free time to wander the trails, photograph wildlife, swim in the splendid warm ocean waters, and sunbathe. The day concluded with a glorious sunset and world preview of our guest slide show followed by captain's farewell dinner.
