Our day began in Kasnyku Bay with close-up views of this spectacular waterfall, surrounded by the thick, rich rain forest, snow-capped mountains, and a cloudless blue sky! The sounds of cameras clicking in unison were drowned out by the powerful sounds of the gushing water. Our spirits soared as we continued to have one beautiful vista after another, throughout this perfect weather day. The incredible beauty was brought even closer to us as we took Zodiac cruises along the shoreline. The exceptionally low tides (minus four feet) gave us the opportunity to not only see the rich diversity of the exposed algae and invertebrates, but we could also peer into the wonderfully dense, pristine, untouched forest.
After a fabulous beach barbecue, some of us spent the afternoon hiking among the 200 year old towering Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock, while others went kayaking on the perfectly calm waters, silently drifting past untouched beauty. Our senses were heightened and enriched with the beautiful sounds of eagles as they perched on the tops of trees or soared overhead. The delicate calls of the marbled murrelets were music to our ears. With no one else around but us, we knew how fortunate we were to be here.
